As you can see from the other testimonials, John has made a significant difference to all that have followed his personalized training regime and advice. I want to share with you the dramatic changes and improvements he has made for me; however, more importantly, I also want to share with you another aspect of John that is so important to people with health problems like me. First, however, a little history to put things into context.
I am a 55 year old male with heart disease. I have had two heart attacks. I had the first one when I was 48 then I had another one three years later while I was jogging in the Florida summer. I survived both of them with approximately 20% loss of heart muscle. Last April, 2008, my cardiologist told me, in no uncertain terms, that I would be heading for another heart attack unless I did what I knew I had to do: lose weight, get back on a regular exercise routine, and quit working so hard.
It so happened that soon after my visit to the cardiologist, a couple of coworkers, talked me into participating in the Tour de Cure diabetes fundraiser in Jacksonville, Florida at the end of May. So I bought a bike and joined them. I was hooked on riding from that very day and without much prodding, agreed to do the Beaches Fine Arts triathlon in July. However, I was a bit anxious about the triathlon given my health so I decided to find a professional trainer.
John sounded like he had the right credentials: an accomplished triathlete and all the right coaching certifications. But the ones that I really keyed on was his education, an MS in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Science, and his current full time profession as a cardiac perfusionist.
I called John immediately and scheduled an appointment. From that first meeting it was clear that John was the right person at the right time that was going to help me. He is a calm, centered individual that listens to your needs and concerns and is very knowledgeable about exercise and cardiac physiology.
John tailored a training regime specifically for me with the emphasis on safety. He is very patient with my type A personality and reigns me in often.
Finally, for the results: In a little less than a year, I have lost 30 lbs., I went from running 3 miles at a 10:30 pace to running 10k at a 8:00 - 8:30 pace depending on the conditions (heat, humidity, wind), my functional threshold power (FTP) has gone from 155 watts to approximately 215 watts (see John for details on this measure of fitness), I couldn't swim more than 150 yards without stopping, and now I can swim 2 miles without stopping. I came in 22nd place out of 23 in my age group at 1:22:16 on my first sprint triathlon, I came in third in a recent Olympic length triathlon in Siesta Key, FL., where I came in first in the bike leg in my age group. My cardiologist is elated with the results. He has halved my beta blocker medication and is planning on eliminating it altogether in a couple of months.
If you have health problems, John can help you meet your goals safely and professionally, whether they are for general health improvement or competition. I can't begin to tell you how much different I feel and what confidence I now have. At the end of this season, I am planning a 1/2 Ironman, a marathon, and will be joining John, his wife, and a great group in the French Alps to ride some of the Tour de France routes.
